Department meeting agenda template

A department meeting agenda should pass on what leadership decided and what it means here, review the department's own numbers for the month, give each sub-team a short update, and sort out requests to and from other departments. Finish with the key dates for the coming month and action items with one owner each.

Questions people ask

How is a department meeting different from a team meeting?
A team meeting is usually weekly and covers the work of one small group. A department meeting brings several teams together, often monthly, so it sticks to what affects all of them: leadership news, shared numbers, process changes and requests from other departments.
What should a monthly team meeting agenda include?
Last month's action items, the month's numbers against target, short updates from each group, anything changing next month, and key dates for the next four to six weeks. Because a month is a long gap, give action items dates inside the month rather than "next meeting". For the basics, see how to write a meeting agenda.
How do I stop the department meeting turning into a string of updates?
Ask sub-team leads to send their update in writing two days before, and give each two minutes in the room for what needs the whole department. Spend the time you save on requests between departments and process changes, where people actually need each other.
